Fayette County sheriff's deputy shoots knife-wielding suspect

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (AP) – Authorities say a sheriff's deputy in Fayette County has shot and killed a man found holding a knife to the throat of a teenage hostage. Fayette County sheriff's spokesman Brent Rowan says deputies were responding to a call at 3:35 a.m. Saturday about a fight in progress at a home. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that Rowan says the deputies found a 22-year-old man at the house holding a knife to the throat of a 17-year-old hostage. The spokesman says a deputy fired a single shot, killing the man, after he was told several times to drop and the knife and refused. The names of the deputy and the slain suspect were not immediately released. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
