PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Flood Warning for Line Creek near Senoia effective immediately until further notice.
At 4 p.m. today, Line Creek was at 8.3 feet and rising. Flood stage is 10 feet. When Line Creek reaches the 10-ft. mark, minor flooding of the natural flood plain begins which primarily affects agricultural and wooded areas. A small, dirt utility access road near the Georgia Hwy. 85 bridge goes underwater.
The National Weather Service continues to say a Flood Watch remains in effect for portions of North and most of Central Georgia until 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The Flood Watch area includes Coweta County. Other neighboring counties in the Watch area include Troup, Meriwether, Spalding, Fayette, Fulton, Douglas, Carroll and Heard.
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, The Newnan Times-Herald weather station has recorded 2.45 inches of rain since Sunday. Yesterday (Monday), 1.28 inches of rain had fallen in downtown Newnan and .87 of an inch on Sunday. Today, .30 of an inch has been recorded since midnight.
Moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall will continue to spread across parts of North and most of Central Georgia through early Wednesday. Recent rainfall has made the soil very moist and the additional rainfall amounts could lead to flooding along rivers, small streams and creeks.
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
This afternoon's forecast for Newnan and Coweta County ... a 90 percent chance of showers with a high near 51 degrees. Rainfall amounts could range from 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch. Tonight, a 100 percent chance of showers with a low around 46. Again, between 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch of rain is possible.
