Flood Watch issued for Coweta County until 1 p.m. Wednesday

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Flood Watch in effect for portions of North and most of Central Georgia until 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The Flood Watch area includes Coweta County. Other neighboring counties in the Watch area include Troup, Meriwether, Spalding, Fayette, Fulton, Douglas, Carroll and Heard. The Flash Flood Watch, which was set to expire at 1 p.m. today, was replaced with the Flood Watch.
Recent rainfall has made the soil very moist and the additional rainfall amounts could lead to flooding along rivers, small streams and creeks.
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
In the last 24 hours, the Newnan Times-Herald Weather Station indicates downtown Newnan has received 1.80 inches of rain during that period of time. On Sunday, the NTH Weather Station recorded .87 of an inch of rain. Today, the amount recorded is .93 of an inch as of 1 p.m.
Tonight's forecast for Newnan and Coweta County ... rain is likely, mainly before 9 p.m. Patchy fog will develop after 10 p.m. Otherwise, cloudy conditions are expected with a low around 42 degrees. The chance of rain tonight is 60 percent with rainfall amounts between 1/10 and 1/4 of an inch.
