There are now five candidates for the District 71 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives.
Real estate broker Richard Weisser and retiree Michael Farbo Jr. qualified for the seat on Tuesday.
They join general contractor Thomas G. Crymes, attorney Darryl Marmon, and business owner David J. Stover, who all qualified on Monday.
All five men qualified as Republicans.
Qualifying ends today at noon for the special election, which will be held on Feb. 5.
A runoff, if needed, will be held on March 5.
The District 71 seat, formerly held by Billy Horne, R-Sharpsburg, became vacant upon the withdrawal of Rep. elect Robert Stokely, R-Sharpsburg, who was recently appointed to a judgeship in Coweta Magistrate Court.
Because this is a special election, all candidates will run together regardless of party affiliation. Candidates can declare their party affiliation when qualifying, but they are not required to.
Qualifying runs from 8 a.m. to noon today at the Georgia Secretary of State’s Election Division office.
The address is 802 West Tower, 2 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, SE, Atlanta, 30334.
The qualifying fee is $400. Candidates must be at least 21 years old, have lived in the district for one year, and have been citizens of the state of Georgia for at least two years.
For more information on qualifying, call the elections division at 404-656-2871.
