An unoccupied single-family house in the Sargent community of west Coweta County was destroyed in a fire Monday night.
Coweta County Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a structure fire at 16 Sargent Railroad Ave. to find an approximately 900-square-foot house fully involved in flames, said Assistant Chief Scott Harmon. Sargent is off Highway 16 West.
Firefighters went into a defensive mode to contain the blaze. Car 3, Engine 2 and Truck 8 were called out to the scene.
"No one was living in the home according to bystanders on-scene," the assistant chief said, adding the cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshal's Office.
