Traffic signs have been up for the last week at the south Newnan city limits and in downtown Newnan advising motorists of traffic delays for the filming of “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” on Greenville Street through Wednesday.

Filming begins on Greenville Street

Filming began Monday at a private residence at 155 Greenville St. near downtown Newnan.

Traffic signs have been up for the last week at the south Newnan city limits and in downtown Newnan advising motorists of traffic delays for the filming of “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” on Greenville Street through Wednesday.

Particularly on Wednesday, the road will be closed to through traffic from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., according to Newnan Police Chief Douglas L. “Buster” Meadows.

A detour from Greenville Street has been marked sending traffic along LaGrange Street between Salbide Avenue and Waterworks/ Sewell Roads.

“There will be slight delays,” said Meadows.

Green House Pictures got permission last month from the Newnan City Council to film a portion of the Disney Studios motion picture in Newnan.

I would like to say that I am not opposed to Coweta Co. cashing in on movie making. In fact, I think it is exciting, but I do have a comment regarding the filming this week on Greenville St. Residents were given special permits to travel to and from their homes, yet those who followed by the rules to the letter and were cooperative were treated rudely when they simply tried to get to and from home. I was shocked at the response of traffic control to residents. Next time, please remember that the people who live on the street are being cooperative not being compensated. Just a little courtesy would go a long way. BTW, it was not the movie company people but our own traffic personnel.

Chris, you are wrong in your facts - just check with the Coweta Sheriff's Crime Suppression Unit. They'll be glad to fill you in on ALL the drug & gang activity.
They're on it, 24 / 7.
MSUR Gang is tagging all over Newnan, lately, they are tagging Sprayberry Road -
the fences, the sign at Rite Aid Distribution Center.
See for yourself!

Shia Labeouf

Hey,
A bunch of the Shia Labeouf fans really would like to get a chance to meet him and the crew. We get to host so many movies here but never get to meet them. Everyone I have met loves Shia Labeouf and thinks he's a riot, but none of us want to stoop to stalking to meet someone we admire and disturb them from work. I wonder if the crew would hold an autographing and interview about the show at the performing art center and a percentage of the proceeds for tickets can go to help the tragedy in Japan.
Thanks,
Big Fans!

Gangs

If you believe there are no wanta be gangs in Newnan you might want to speak to the police and sheriff's office and give up your innocence. No one mentione true inner-city gangs. Or just go on down there at night and ask them if they are just pretend gang members. Good luck with that.

Gangs!?!?!?

That's a riot. There are no gangs in Coweta County, at least not in the sense of actual inner city gangs. Nobody is claiming and fighting for territory. Having lived in places that actually did have real gang violence, I find that statement absolutely hilarious.

1st avenue park

1st Avenue Park is gang territory. You have more to worry about than broken lights and city employees in a truck not making you safe. That would take doubling the police department.

this is great all the money being made with movie making and all.but where does it all go? is it in the budget for the park mantiance? 1st ave park is one for instance , we where there just the other day an realized that there where several light fixtures that where broken an the wires are hanging out for little hands,to grab. now surely while you have several new city truck riding around with two or three people per truck all day while doing absolutely nothing . we could have them at least making our parks a safer place for our children.

SCHOOL BUS

Spence Ave.students could have rode the bus home. That road was not closed and that bus could have entered from Sewell. Rd. and then made a right back to spence. That is just pure lazyness of the bus driver.

So filming that was not supposed to effect the schools or the bus's, however it did effect Atkinson elementary which is right there on Nimmons. Several students who live down the road of Binion Tire were not allowed to ride the bus home yesterday because the bus was not going to be allowed down the road...this was at 2:30. The parents were given no prior notice of this...I hope those parents were home...my kid rides that bus and if it had been my kid i would be very upset seeing as I work out of town, and my mother who does not drive watches my child after school at our house after the bus drops him off.
I thought the movie was not going to disrupt the school or buses? City of Newnan is Atkinson going to get some of the movie money?
