Festival continues today

Today is the second day of the 38th annual Powers' Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival -- a Labor Day weekend tradition in Coweta County, and a big fundraiser for local civic groups, clubs and churches.

It is also the final day to sign up to compete in the Miss Coweta and Miss Heard beauty pageant. The pageant will be held Monday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Saturday brought the Powers' Rising Star competition, and winners will be performing again Monday for Labor Day.

Today's entertainment will be fitting for a Sunday.

Before gates open at 9 a.m., exhibitors and volunteers can participate in a service held on the Summerhouse Stage by Elim Baptist Church. The service runs from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. From 9:15 to 10 a.m. there will be a gospel music performance.

Starting at 3 p.m. will be the J93.3 contemporary music showcase. Performing at 3 p.m. will be One Way Caravan, and Jake and Eugene will go on at 4.

The Bullsboro Bluegrass Band will perform from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and a Voices concert sneak preview with Zaphyra and the Southern Nights Chorale gets under way at 2:30.

Emily McEwen and the Sassy Seniors take the stage from 11 to 11:30 a.m., and Rachel Ferguson cloggers and country-western dance team will perform from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Today will also be the day for the presentation of awards for the exhibitors. The awards ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

At the Andy's Nursery exhibit, workshops will include rain barrels and container gardening.

Powers' Crossroads is located on Ga. Hwy. 34 West/Franklin Highway.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $7 adults, $5 seniors and military personnel, and $3 for children ages 5 to 12. Children 4 and under are admitted free. And there is plenty of free parking and a shuttle to the gate.
