Early warning storm sirens on agenda

by Sarah Fay Campbell

A bid award for the installation of early warning storm sirens is on the agenda for Tuesday's meeting of the Coweta County Board of Commissioners.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the county commission chambers on Perry Street in downtown Newnan.

The county is using a combination of grant funds and money from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax to pay for the sirens, which will be placed in public gathering areas around the county, such as parks and sports fields.

Other items to come before the board include:

• A public hearing on an alcohol license application filed by Juanita Bone in operation of Oasis Bar and Grill at 59 Old Corinth Road. That's the former home of Jack's Burgers and Billiards.

• A presentation from Mike Riley regarding filming of "The Walking Dead."

• A presentation from the Coweta Commission on Veterans Affairs.

• Introduction of Coweta CERT Team Number Three.

• Execution of liens and contracts associated with the cleanup of property at 426 Moore Road.

• Approval of amendments to the personnel management system regarding retiree insurance.

• Memorandums of agreement with local jurisdictions for watershed planning.

• A request from "Legends 29" to use the Coweta County Fairgrounds.

• Approval of a contract with E.R. Snell for repair and rehabilitation work on various county roads, under the 2013 Local Maintenance Improvement Grants.

• Approval of the final change order and closeout documents for the Coweta County Fire Department maintenance facility project.

• Public comment periods are included in every commission meeting, both for items on the agenda and items not on the agenda.
