Driver crosses I-85 median strikes vehicle head-on

By Sarah Fay Campbell

The Times-Herald

A crossover accident on Interstate 85 south of Newnan Sunday night sent four people to the hospital, including a 10-year-old girl.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a vehicle being driven by Kelly Firing was traveling southbound near Exit 41.

Somehow, Firing crossed the median and entered the northbound lane. Firing's Nissan Maxima then struck a Jaguar being driven by Rickey Harrison.

Firing was taken by helicopter ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital, according to the state patrol. However, Grady staff said Monday they had no record of Firing being there.

Also in the Jaguar were Alnita Harrison and Destiny Harrison, 10, plus a 1-year-old.

Ricky and Alnita Harrison were taken by ambulance to Piedmont-Newnan Hospital. They were no longer at the hospital on Monday.

Destiny Harrison was taken by helicopter ambulance to Children's Healthcare at Egleston Hospital in Atlanta where she was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon.

The 1-year-old was not injured.

The Georgia State Patrol was notified of the accident at 9:44 Sunday night.

Trooper Michael Coverson investigated the accident.
