Deputy Ross receives SAR Medal of Heroism

From Staff Reports

news@newnan.com

Deputy Jason Michael Ross of the Coweta County Sheriff's Office was recently awarded the Sons of the American Revolution Medal of Heroism by the Marquis de Lafayette Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution.

"The SAR Medal of Heroism is awarded for outstanding bravery and self-sacrifice in the face of imminent danger, acts which involved great personal courage and risk to the recipient," stated LCDR David Jessel (USN-Ret.), past president of the Marquis de Lafayette. "Deputy Ross certainly meets this requirement."

On Sept. 10, 2011, Ross responded immediately to an accident involving a burning vehicle. Without regard for personal safety, Ross upon reaching the scene, reported the fire and immediately took action resulting in the driver and passenger being rescued. Ross was commended for his calm, cool demeanor during the entire incident by Coweta County Sheriff Mike Yeager, staying in command of the situation and getting the job done with the utmost care for the vehicle occupants.

The Sons of the American Revolution is open to men, 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot or one who aided the cause of the American Revolution.

For information on the Marquis de Lafayette Chapter GASSAR, contact David Jessel at 770-254-8579.

You're mother and I are very proud of you! I know the family of Ms. Evans is extremely grateful for what you did as well. I have heard you say many times that you would do it all over again and have emphasized on how appreciative you are to the Sherrif's office for providing you with the necessary training and resources to help you prepare for this very type of situation. Great job!
