Coweta's Lassetter chairs Three Rivers Commission

By Sarah Fay Campbell

The Times-Herald

The Three Rivers Regional Commission council, now with 35 members, has elected Coweta Commissioner Tim Lassetter as chairman.

The group held the third meeting since the regional commission was created by the merger of the Chattachoochee-Flint and McIntosh Trail regional development centers.

And the gathering Thursday at the Coweta County Fairgrounds was the first since all of the members have been appointed to the council.

There are now a total of 35 members, said Coweta County Commissioner Tim Lassetter, who was elected chairman at the meeting. Lassetter had been named interim chairman at the first meeting.

Coweta's representatives include Lassetter, Newnan City Councilman Clayton Hicks, former Moreland mayor Ed Bledsoe, and Tony Sinclair.

Bledsoe, a long-time member of the Chatt-Flint board, was appointed to the council by Gov. Sonny Perdue; and Sinclair, president and CEO of Coweta-Fayette EMC, is Coweta's "non public" representative.

Much of the business of the meeting dealt with the blending of the two RDCs.

A policy committee has been working on "marrying" the polices of the two RDCs, Lassetter said.

The council also approved procedures for Development of Regional Impact reviews.

Plans are to have the meetings in a central location each month. The previous meetings were held in Greenville and Molena. The next Coweta meeting will likely be in Senoia.

Some visitors turned out to observe the council work, as well.

They included Grantville City Manager Scott Starnes, Moreland Mayor Josh Evans, County Commission Chairman Paul Poole, and County Administrator Theron Gay.
