A Coweta County woman who stole more than $21,000 from a victim suffering from dementia now faces multiple counts of forgery.
Melinda Shontresa Dixon, 39, stole several checks from the victim and used the money to feed her drug habit, according to Major Jimmy Yarbrough with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.
Dixon was arrested Friday and is charged with 29 counts of first degree forgery, according to Coweta County Jail records.
"It had been going on for about a month," the major said. "She would come into his house (the victim), use his phone and then steal the checks. The victim had some type of dementia ... She just took advantage of the situation."
Dixon confessed to stealing the checks and the investigation showed she had taken more than $21,000.
"She said all the money was gone," the major said. "She apparently used it on crack cocaine."
