Coweta's jobless rate improves slightly

Coweta’s jobless rate improved in October to 7.5 percent while the Three Rivers’ planning region’s unemployment rate was unchanged at 9.1 percent in October.
The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the preliminary unemployment rate in the Three Rivers region was unchanged at 9.1 percent from September to October. The rate was 10.4 percent in October 2011.
October jobless rates for the Three Rivers planning district 10-county region were: Coweta, 7.5 percent; Carroll, 8.9; Heard, 8.9; Troup, 9.3; Meriwether, 10.4; Spalding, 10.7; Pike, 9.4; Upson, 10.8; Lamar, 10.3; Butts, 9.7.
September jobless rates for the Three Rivers planning district 10-county region were: Coweta, 7.8 percent; Carroll, 8.9; Heard, 9.5; Troup, 9.5; Meriwether, 10.2; Spalding, 10.8; Pike, 8.7; Upson, 11.0; Lamar, 10.6; Butts, 9.9.
Metro Athens continued to have the lowest area jobless rate at 6.2 percent, while metro Dalton had the highest at 11.3 percent.
Meanwhile, Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 8.7 percent in October, down three-tenths of a percentage point from 9.0 percent in September. The jobless rate was 9.7 percent in October a year ago.
Statewide, there were 3,971,700 jobs in October, up 36,000, or nine-tenths of a percentage point, from 3,935,700 in September. Over the year, Georgia gained 68,000 jobs, or 1.7 percent, from 3,903,700 in October 2011.
