Coweta County Tax Commissioner Tommy Ferrell reminds taxpayers that 2009 state, county and school property taxes are due Dec. 1.
Property tax bills were mailed the first of October. If a taxpayer has not received a bill on any property that they have the responsibility of paying, they should check with the Tax Commissioner's Office for the amount due to ensure payment is made on or before Dec. 1. Late charges begin accruing after that date. Taxpayers can view tax bills and pay online through PayPal at www.cowetataxcom.com.
Property owners who purchased their property after Jan. 1, 2009, should remember that tax bills are mailed to the legal owner of record as of Jan. 1. However, responsibility for payment of taxes would have been determined at closing, normally with the new owner being made responsible. Failure to have received a tax bill in the mail does not cause late charges to be waived if paid after the due date. The Tax Commissioner's Office cannot guarantee receipt of a tax bill in the mail.
Taxpayers are encouraged to mail their payments whenever possible. Official U.S. Postal Service postmarks are accepted (not metered). Visa, Mastercard and American Express are accepted with a 2.5 percent administration fee. Debit cards are accepted with a $1.50 per transaction fee. Also, an overnight payment drop box is located at the Perry Street entrance to the County Administration Building in downtown Newnan.
Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Friday, except for the third Wednesday in each month when the office opens at 8:30. The tax and tag offices, like other county offices, will be closed Nov. 26-27 for the Thanksgiving holidays.

So thrilled that this is going to jack my house payment up, since it's added into my mortage. Glad to see my money is going to waste because the school system is not even teaching children anything. I have seen plenty that have graduate high school and don't have a clue about anything!!!

I think it is awful that a person be charged an extra 2.5 fee if they pay their taxs with a credit card. My $2380 tax bill would mean over $59 extra. Add to that more if a person was not able to pay off the card within the month. All in the name of an 'administration fee'They do no more work to process the bill!!

The credit card fee is actually charged by the credit card companies. Did you think that you didn't pay extra every time you use your credit card for a purchase? The business just tacks the charge on to the price of the product where it is included in the price. Although it won't work every time, try asking your mechant if he/she will give you a lower price if you pay cash. Some do, most won't.
