The Centre Strings orchestra will present its Winter Concert at the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts on Dec. 18.
The performance will include music by Doris Gazda, Leopold Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Henry Purcell, Enrique Granados, Jerry Herman, Richard Rodgers, George Friderick Handel, and Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Admission is free to the public.
The Centre Strings — Coweta County’s only community-student orchestra — will hold the concert at 7 p.m. in the Centre’s recital hall. “Guest stars” for that night’s performance will include Dr. Steve Barker, Mark Whitlock, Dr. Laurie Barron, Don Nixon, Dean Jackson, and Josh Boyd.
The orchestra — and the evening’s performance — is being led by Dr. Lyn Schenbeck. Schenbeck has taught music on every level for more than 40 years, including conducting orchestras and choirs all over the United States and Eastern Europe. She has conducted more than 30 musicals and operas as well. Currently, Schenbeck is director of the arts at the Central Educational Center.
“I hope the public will come to hear the wonderful instrumental talent that we have in our community,” said Schenbeck. And if someone plays an orchestral instrument, I hope they would consider joining Centre strings in January for the spring semester.”
For further information on the concert or Centre Strings, call the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts on Lower Fayetteville Road in Newnan at 770-254-2787 or Dr. Lyn Schenbeck at  678-423-2000, ext. 230.
