Candidates qualify for state Senate primary race

ATLANTA (AP) — Four candidates have qualified for the ballot in a special primary election for a state Senate seat in western Georgia. Those candidates are competing to fill the seat previously held by state Sen. William Hamrick. Hamrick lives in Carrollton and stepped down to become a Coweta Judicial Circuit Superior Court judge. The deadline to qualify passed on Friday. The qualified Republican candidates include former House Speaker Glenn Richardson, Mike Dugan, Bill Hembree and James Naughton. No Democrats are on the ballot yet. A special primary will be held in the district on Nov. 6, the same day as the general election.
