Burglars hit east Newnan apartment and food mart

By John Winters

The Newnan Times-Herald

Authorities are investigating two burglaries on the east side of Newnan, including one at an apartment complex.

A witness called Newnan Police Department Monday around 12:30 p.m. and noticed the door to another residence at the 80 Newnan Lakes Blvd. complex was open. When they arrived, officers found numerous pry marks along the dead bolt and the door casing was broken, according to statements in the officers' report.

"There were items thrown all over the place in the living room, dining room and the bedroom," the officers reported.

The homeowner later arrived and told police items missing included a pistol, bank statements, a diamond engagement ring and diamond wedding band valued at $12,000, a $400 television, a digital camera and a computer.

In another burglary, police responded to an early morning alarm Monday at the BP Food Mart, 101 Greison Trail.

Once there, officers noticed the front glass door was broken. Also, the main power breaker located at the back of the building had been shut off.

A manager told police the only thing apparently missing was about $100 from a cash register.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
