Fischer Crossings once again on board's agenda

by SARAH FAY CAMPBELL

The Fischer Crossings development is once again on the agenda of the Coweta County Board of Commissioners.

The board meets Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the county commission chambers on Perry Street.

The meeting was postponed a week because of the July 4 holiday.

On the agenda are a petition filed by Fischer Partners LLC to amend some of the previous conditions of zoning for the development, and a development agreement with Fischer Partners. Fischer Crossings is at the intersection of Highways 54 and 34 near Fischer Road in eastern Coweta, near Peachtree City.

Fischer Partners LLC has a contract to buy the stalled development from Synovus Bank, which foreclosed on the previous owners.

At the June 18 commission meeting, there was extensive discussion by the commissioners during the public hearing, though not always on the proposed changes themselves. Commissioner Rodney Brooks spoke at length on his concerns about the plan to close one end of Wynn’s Pond Road and open the other one — something that was agreed to by the Wynn’s Pond property owners back in 2011.

The proposed amendment relating to the road is to allow construction to begin on the development side of Wynn’s Pond before the required median break on Hwy. 54 is completed.

Other items to come before the board include:

• A request to reject all bids for a propane auto gas pilot program. The commissioners had previously rejected the one bid that was submitted because that bid didn’t meet specifications. The project was then rebid. Information on why county staff is recommending rejection was not available on Friday.

• An update on the county’s joint comprehensive transportation plan update, which is in progress.

• A public hearing on the county’s capital improvements element and short term work program 2014-2018 update.

• Confirmation of an architectural agreement with K.A. Oldham for the Phase II jail and sheriff’s office improvements project.

• Awarding contracts and executing liens related to the cleanup of properties at 10 Hearthstone Drive North, 125 South Robin Lane, 6 Bittersweet Lane and 53 Garden Hills Drive.
