The fire early Friday
started in the attic in the back corner of the house at 40 Carriage Gate Drive, and flames were already showing through the roof by the time the fire department arrived, according to a Coweta County Fire Department spokesman.

A Coweta County home was gutted by an attic fire Friday morning, but no injuries were reported.

According to Coweta County Fire Department Assistant Chief Jeff Denney, 15 CCFD personnel arrived on scene at 40 Carriage Gate Drive around 5:50 a.m. Three fire engine companies, one truck company, a fire rescue crew and three cars responded to the fire. The fire started in the attic in the back corner of the house, and flames were already showing through the roof by the time the fire department arrived, Denney said.

“Everybody worked hard,” Denney said, “but this was a deep seated fire that got a jump on us. It ran the attic quickly.”

Because the fire was located in the attic, it was able to quickly spread across the house unimpeded by walls. Firefighters were able to stop the fire, but the home faced total damage to the interior.

Neither the homeowners nor CCFD personnel sustained any injuries, and the cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
