Streets in downtown Newnan to be repaved

by CELIA SHORTT

Construction on several streets in downtown Newnan is set to begin on Monday.

The milling and resurfacing of the streets is scheduled to be done at night, starting around 7 p.m., to lessen the impact on the businesses and those visiting downtown Newnan, city officials said.

The streets being worked on include Spring Street, Perry Street, East Broad Street, and East Washington Street, from the Court Square to the railroad right-of-way.

The existing asphalt on these roads will be milled to a sufficient depth that will accommodate an asphalt layer of crack relief and a final asphalt wearing surface, officials said. Also being done is the application of reflective thermoplastic traffic stripe and raised pavement markers, crosswalks, and the marking of parking stalls.

Baldwin Paving, the contractor, expects to have the paving completed by Friday night. He is, however, reserving Saturday as a possibility should the weather cause any delays.
