Newnan parade still on

Fireworks rescheduled for July 13

by CELIA SHORTT

In light of the rainy weather predicted for Wednesday and Thursday, Newnan Rotary Club has rescheduled the Fourth of July community celebration and fireworks at Drake Stadium to July 13.

Currently, the Newnan parade is still scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday. According to city Business Development Director Hasco Craver IV, a decision on the parade will be made by 2 p.m. Wednesday.

If the parade is canceled because of weather, it will be not be rescheduled, Craver said. "It's a safety issue, 100 percent," said Walt Thompson, Newnan Rotary president, of the decision to reschedule the fireworks to July 13 — the next date the fireworks company has available.

Thompson also said that the Rotary Club had to consider that the football field couldn't be used if it rained. They would have to fight the rain all day, and it would make setup difficult since most of it is done Thursday morning.

On July 13, attendees may arrive at the stadium starting at 6 p.m., and the show will begin at dusk.

The Main Street program of Market Day will take place in downtown Newnan this Saturday, rain or shine, Craver said.
