Man found dead on railroad tracks in Senoia

by WES MAYER

On Sunday morning, the body of a male was discovered on the railroad tracks near Stallings Road in Senoia.

According to Lt. Col. James Yarbrough with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office, the body appeared to have been run over twice.

The case is being treated as a homicide, Yarbrough said, but an autopsy was being performed to ascertain whether the death was an accident.

The man, who is still in the process of being identified, may have been traveling by the first train and fell asleep, Yarbrough said. He could have then fallen under the train and was run over and killed, authorities suspect.

It was not until the second train passed through around 6:30 a.m. that conductors saw the body and were able to alert police.

The man had a few tattoos, and he should be able to be identified by his fingerprints, Yarbrough said. Some tattoos were of railroad tracks, so it is possible he traveled by train often, according to Yarbrough.

The Newnan Times-Herald will update this story when the man has been identified.
