A motorcyclist died Sunday after being involved in a wreck near Palmetto on U.S. Highway 29 North just before 4 p.m.

Authorities said the motorcyclist, James Scott Freeman, was traveling south on U.S. Hwy. 29 when a Jeep Cherokee traveling north turned into a parking lot in front of his motorcycle.

The female driver of the Cherokee, Wanda Henry Woods, 77, had reportedly missed her turn onto Tommy Lee Cook Road, and was attempting to turn around in the next parking lot, according to Lt. Col. James Yarbrough of the Coweta County Sheriff's Office. She did not see the oncoming motorcyclist and collided with him head-on.

Woods was not injured, authorities said, but the motorcyclist was reported unconscious and in critical condition at the scene. He was transported by ambulance to Grady Hospital where he later died from his injuries. Freeman was born in 1967.
