The new Goodwill store and career center at Thomas Crossroads will have its grand opening Thursday at noon.

New employees are busy getting the new Newnan East Goodwill store and career center ready for its grand opening on Thursday.

There will be a short grand opening ceremony at noon. The ceremony will include remarks from a local “success story” who found a job thanks to the services provided at the Goodwill career center at the existing Newnan Goodwill, which will now be known as Newnan West, in Shenandoah Plaza on Bullsboro Drive. Goodwill of the Southern Rivers CEO Jane Nichols will also speak.

“Then we’ll cut the ribbon, open the doors, and people will start coming in,” said Yolanda Stephen, manager of communications for Goodwill of the Southern Rivers.

The Newnan East Goodwill is located at 3121 East Highway 34 at Highway 154 in the Thomas Crossroads area, in the former location of Save Rite grocery warehouse.

The career center will also open along with the store.

The building has more than 47,000 square feet of space, leaving room for future expansion.

Earlier this year, a Goodwill representative said the sales floor will be about 10,000 square feet.

There is a manned drive-thru donation center. And donations are currently being accepted, Stephen said.

There are plans to eventually add a training center, which helps people with disabilities get the skills, including soft skills and life skills, they need to earn a job. There may also be various classes offered, such as financial literacy classes, in addition to career center classes.

Job training and programs are the “mission services” of Goodwill of the Southern Rivers. Money raised from the sale of donated items goes toward those services, including the career centers and training centers.

“Anytime someone donates to Goodwill, it helps people earn a job,” Stephen said.
