Celebration June 15

Juneteenth returning to Willie Lynch Park

With Juneteenth only a month away, planning continues for the annual Juneteenth event in Newnan, said organizer Brittany Harrison of No Longer Tied Outreach.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, will be held on June 15 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Willie Lynch Park at Wesley Street and Richard Allen Drive west of downtown Newnan.

The tentative schedule for the day includes:

• In the Wesley Street Gym the question-and-answer, open forum health fair runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Family games on the baseball field run noon until 5:30 p.m.

• This year’s celebration will have two entertainment portions at the pavilion; the first portion will run from 1-2 p.m. and the second half will be 4 to 5:30 p.m.

“The park will be filled with family fun games, free food, music and dancing,” said Harrison. “The event is based on educating the community on what’s available to families as well as understanding what’s going on around them.”

Those wishing to set up free booths may reach Harrison at 404-536-0006 or Juneteenthnewnan@gmail.com.
