Possible Explosive Device

Police chase, crash closes I-75 in metro Atlanta

by The Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) — All traffic was halted on an Atlanta freeway early Monday afternoon after a high-speed police chase ended in a crash and fears of a possible explosive device.

Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce said the ordeal began shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, when a woman walked into a SunTrust Bank branch on Mars Hill Road and claimed she had an explosive device.

Police say they pursued the suspect until she crashed and overturned on Interstate 75 near Mount Paran Road late Monday morning. State transportation officials say speeds in the chase reached 120 mph.

Pierce said the suspect was apprehended after the crash. WSB-TV video showed a bomb-sniffing dog searching around the overturned vehicle.

All lanes of I-75 in the area, near Atlanta's northwestern edge, were shut down early Monday afternoon.
