Hallmark Film Shoot

Downtown Newnan parking blocked today

by Sarah Fay Campbell

There will be no road “closures” in downtown Newnan today for the filming of “The Watsons Go to Birmingham,” but there will be “intermittent traffic control,” and large swaths of parking in downtown will be closed from early today until mid-afternoon.

“No streets will be closed,” said Newnan Police Chief Buster Meadows. While actual shooting is taking place “there will be stop-and-go traffic,” he said.

According to Meadows, on-street parking will be blocked in the following locations: both sides of North Court Square, the north side of East Washington between Jefferson Street and Perry Street, both sides of West Washington between Jackson Street and Brown Street, the north side of Madison Street between Jackson and Jefferson streets, the west side of Jefferson Street between Washington and Broad (East Court Square), and the west side of Jefferson Street between Spring Street and Broad Street.

After leaving downtown the film crew will head to Sprayberry’s on Jackson Street/U.S. 29, and there will be some intermittent traffic control in front of the restaurant during filming.
