Man in Hwy. 154, Hwy. 16 wreck dies

by John A. Winters

An 80-year-old Coweta County man involved in a two-car accident on April 11 has died from his injuries.

This makes the third wreck fatality for 2013 in Coweta.

Harry Robertson, of the Raymond Community, died Tuesday. His funeral service is today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson St. in Newnan.

Both he and his wife had to be extricated from their vehicle by firefighters with the Coweta County Fire Department. Robertson was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center, while his wife, Joyce, was taken to the same hospital by ground ambulance.

Robertson was driving a 1989 Pontiac and was southbound on Georgia Highway 154 when he stopped at the intersection with Old Highway 16, according to sheriff’s deputy Ty Thompson. He then proceeded to turn left but failed to yield and was hit almost broadside by a westbound Ford pickup on Hwy. 154 driven by Joshua Bentley, 23, of Sharpsburg.

Bentley was driven to Piedmont Fayette Hospital by ground ambulance after complaining of leg pain after the 1:47 p.m. accident near East Coweta High School, Thompson said. No charges were filed.
