Cowetan victim of ID theft

by John A. Winters

An Emory Healthcare employee was arrested for using the identification of a Coweta County patient on a lease application.

Kimberly Poole used the information, including the name, date of birth and Social Security number, on a lease for her daughter’s apartment in Statesboro, according to Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Chad McDonald.

The daughter was a student at Georgia Southern University.

“Poole did so to make the victim the guarantor for her daughter’s lease, thus making the victim financially liable for any lease payments that her daughter failed to make,” the investigator said in a statement. When her daughter missed a lease payment in December of last year, the victim was contacted and reported having never heard of Poole’s daughter, McDonald stated.

Investigators were able to trace an email Poole used to provide the false information to the apartment property manager.

They discovered Poole was working as an administrative assistant in the Neurology Department at Emory Clinic in Atlanta.

“Poole confessed and stated that this was an ‘isolated incident,’ but Emory Healthcare is still conducting an audit to determine if there are additional victims,” McDonald said.

Poole was charged with identity fraud.
