Begins May 1

Main Street starting community farmers market

by Staff Reports

Newnan’s downtown food offerings will get a little bigger — and a little fresher — starting May 1, when Our Community Farmers Market opens in cooperation with Main Street Newnan and the city Business Development department.

The market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the historic train depot between East Broad and East Washington streets.

Marianne Pizzitola, who operates Our Community Farmers Market said her group is excited to be part of the effort to bring healthy, fresh vegetables to downtown Newnan.

“We have two Newnan farmers that are Certified Naturally Grown,” Pizzitola said. Other vendors include sweets, a dedicated gluten free/allergen friendly baker, homemade fresh salsa, all natural soap and fragrances, local honey,  all natural dog treats, handmade clothes, goat cheese, relishes, fudge, and more.

“We think this is a great fit for downtown Newnan,” said Hasco Craver, Newnan Business Development director. “We’ll start off one day a week but hope that it will grow organically — pun intended — to being open twice a week,” Craver said.

The market will be open until Thanksgiving.
