Homeowner gunshot gets attention of 'very intoxicated' suspect

It took a gunshot fired into the air to finally convince a “very intoxicated” would-be burglar that it would be best for him to try somewhere else. 

Coweta County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a Mount Carmel Road residence early Sunday about a burglary in progress, according to Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Yarbrough.

Based on the investigation, a “very intoxicated” man started kicking in the door at the residence, the colonel said. The homeowner finally got the suspect to go out into the yard, but the suspect wouldn’t leave, resulting in the homeowner firing a shot into the air. And that got the suspect moving. 

The suspect, Jeremy Stanford Ransby, 24, of Newnan, was picked up by deputies down the street, Yarbrough said.

Apparently, Ransby was drinking all night and got kicked out of another nearby residence after starting a fight, pulling over a stove and knocking things off the walls.

Things got a little worse for Ransby. He was found to have outstanding warrants for burglary out of Heard County, and officers also found marijuana on him, Yarbrough said. He was taken to the Coweta County Jail and charged with criminal trespass and possession of marijuana.
