Three Coweta County teens were arrested this week accused of burglarizing, or attempting to burglarize, at least three area businesses.
Bradley Durwind Johnson, Lawrence Edward Mase Jr. and Jeremy Rayder Mosely -- all 18 years old -- have been charged with burglary and criminal attempt to burglarize.
According to Major James Yarbrough of the Coweta County Sheriff's Office, officials began investigating a burglary that occurred at Hall's Grocery, 139 South Main St. in Luthersville, on Monday at approximately 10 p.m.
The perpetrators removed the air conditioner unit from the window to gain entry. Once inside, they took cigarettes, an undetermined amount of cash and some drinks. In the process, they vandalized the business, doing substantial damage, according to Yarbrough.
Investigators Casey Mullis and James Long found "incriminating evidence left behind at the scene" that implicated Johnson, Mase and Mosely. The three suspects were arrested without incident on Tuesday.
Yarbrough attributes the prompt arrest of the alleged perpetrators to "excellent investigative work."
The three suspects were also linked to an attempted burglary at the Lee-Goodrum Pharmacy located at 134 Millard Farmer Ind. Blvd. in Newnan. According to Detective-Sgt. Rick Mires of the Newnan Police Department, Johnson, Mase and Mosely allegedly attempted to break into the pharmacy Tuesday at approximately 4 a.m.
Surveillance video shows three men prop a ladder against the building at the drive-thru area. They proceeded to search for a way to access the interior of the business from the roof. When they weren't successful, they broke the drive-thru window but still couldn't get into the building, according to Mires.
Surveillance then shows the three suspects trying to jimmy the lock with what appeared to be a knife, according to the detective. When the men -- whose faces weren't covered -- realized they were being videotaped, they looked like "deer caught in the headlights" before fleeing the area, said Mires.
Mires showed the surveillance pictures to the county investigators and they identified the 18-year-olds as the suspects in the Hall's Grocery burglary. Johnson, Mase and Mosely will be charged with criminal attempt to burglarize by the city.
The three suspects also allegedly participated in a burglary incident at a Palmetto gas station. Calls to the Palmetto Police Department for additional information weren't immediately returned.
[Correction: The Hall’s Grocery that was burglarized by the suspects was incorrectly identified above as the store in Luthersville. The business is actually the branch located on Fischer Road in north Coweta County. We regret the error.]
