Annual Sunrise on the Square Road Race a success

Runners of all ages and skill level took part in Saturday’s Sunrise on the Square Road Race, hosted by Main Street Newnan. 


The annual Sunrise on the Square included ideal weather and a first-time winner who actually pushed his baby in a stroller.

The race, hosted by Main Street Newnan, began at 8 a.m. at Piedmont Newnan Fitness Center on West Court Square at West Broad and traveled down LaGrange Street to the area of Newnan High School. The race of more than 125 runners was preceded by a 7:45 a.m. one-mile “fun run,” and was followed by an 8:45 a.m. “tot trot,” where toddlers raced down the block of West Broad.

“The race has been great, the weather was good and everybody showed up, so we’re thankful for that,” said race director Courtney Collins of Main Street Newnan. “We had a lot of determined runners. The biggest thing we saw this year was a dad and baby winning the race.”

The run through Newnan’s historic districts had Yuri Force finishing first, all whi pushing his baby daughter in a stroller, at a time of 19 minutes and 13 seconds, the only winner under the 20-minute mark.
