County authorities arrest five ID fraud suspects

by Wes Mayer

Four women and a man suspected of identity fraud were arrested by Coweta County authorities Thursday after two of them were caught attempting to cash stolen checks.

Around 11:30 a.m., Coweta Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the Wells Fargo Bank inside Kroger at Thomas Crossroads to check on two women who were caught by a bank employee attempting to cash stolen checks. According to Investigator Chad McDonald with the sheriff’s office, deputies spoke to the two women, Ella Hall and Keyana Ankomah, who were still in possession of the stolen checks. Ankomah was also in possession of eight credit cards, none of them hers, and she initially gave deputies a wrong name.

After speaking to the suspects, Corporal Bobby Crowdis learned the two women had received the checks from Tamiere Cuthbert, who drove to the location with the other two suspects, Alieteha Sinkfield and Yermiah Ragland, in a gold Lexus. Crowdis was able to locate the vehicle and smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside, so he searched the vehicle and found an entire checkbook that was determined to be stolen, around four ounces of marijuana and $4,500 in cash.

According to McDonald, Crowdis received consent to search Hall’s vehicle, a Chevrolet Cruze, and inside her vehicle, he discovered more stolen checks.

All five were charged with one count of identity fraud. Sinkfield, Ragland and Cuthbert were each also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Ankomah was also charged with giving a false name to officers and financial transaction card theft. According to Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough of the sheriff’s office, the case is still under investigation with other agencies, and the suspects may face more charges. All five were transported to the Coweta County Jail.
