United Bank to merge with Monroe County Bank

by Clay Neely

United Bank and Monroe County Bank (“MCB”) this week announced the completion of their merger, and, according to Steven Stripling, president of United Bank in Newnan, things have been going extremely smooth.

“The merger of MCB is a perfect fit for United Bank in many ways,” said Stripling. “Their culture, banking philosophy and customer base are extremely similar to ours. This will expand our footprint throughout central Georgia into and around the Macon market, making it more convenient for United Bank customers.”

“We are excited to complete this transaction and proceed toward a full conversion of our banks,” said Jim Edwards, United Bank’s CEO. “Monroe County shares many similar qualities with the other great communities we serve in Middle Georgia. In the weeks to come, we look forward to meeting our newest customers and learning more about this great community and how United Bank can be a part of its continued growth.”

All of MCB’s locations in Forsyth and Bolingbroke will now become United Bank offices. Monroe County Bank is the county’s oldest community bank and operates full-service offices in Forsyth and Bolingbroke, according to a news release.

United Bank currently operated 16 banking offices in Georgia including locations in Pike, Lamar, Spalding, Upson, Butts, Monroe and Coweta counties. The addition of the former MCB offices will increase United Bank’s banking offices to a total of 18 and ATMs to a total of 23.

William “Bill” Bazemore, Monroe County Bank’s chairman, CEO and president, has been named president of the Monroe division for United Bank. “We look forward to continuing to offer the great customer service we’ve been known for since the founding of our bank in 1908,” Bazemore said in a prepared statement with the announcement Thursday. “We are very excited about the potential of our combined organizations and look forward to joining United Bank, one of Georgia’s premier community banks.” United Bank is one of the largest permanent mortgage originators in the markets it serves and also offers a full service Trust and Investment Division. United’s total assets are just under $1.1 billion with over 400 employees.

The terms of the merger were not disclosed.
