3 suspected drug dealers arrested after fleeing

by Wes Mayer

Two men and a woman suspected of dealing drugs were arrested Friday after a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office deputy located them in an undeveloped area of a Newnan subdivision.

Around 6 p.m., Deputy Adam Montgomery responded to the Belmont Park subdivision to check on a drug complaint, said Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough with the sheriff’s office. In an undeveloped intersection of the neighborhood, Montgomery found a 2007 Chevrolet Impala with three occupants.

According to Yarbrough, when Montgomery attempted to make contact with the driver of the vehicle, he sped off in the subdivision, colliding with several parked cars and a few mailboxes in the process. The vehicle then stopped and the driver and passenger, both men, fled in opposite directions. The woman stayed in the vehicle.

Montgomery was able to chase down the driver, identified as Antwan Marquice Echols, 22, on foot, and Montgomery eventually deployed his Taser stun gun to immobilize him and take him into custody. Backup units were able to locate the passenger, identified as Andrew Dominique Fontenot, 20, and take him into custody as well.

While Echols fled, he allegedly attempted to discard multiple baggies of marijuana on the ground. Authorities were able to locate eight of these bags. Fontenot was also found with $985 in his pocket, mostly in $20 bills, which led authorities to believe the men were selling drugs. Authorities also searched the car, where they found the woman, Sharee Della Hayes, 22, and found 25 Xanax pills inside.

Because Echols was the driver, he was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude officers, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Both Echols and Fontenot were charged with obstruction for attempting to flee on foot, and all three were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of narcotics with intent to distribute. All three were transported to the Coweta County Jail.
