Six suspects burglarized the Verizon store on the bypass near Ashley Park early Saturday and were apprehended shortly after.

Newnan Police Department Detective Sergeant Schrepfer said the alarm call came in at 3:26 Saturday morning. Six men broke into the store with a prybar and “stole quite a bit of merchandise.”

One piece of merchandise they stole was actually a “bait” phone for thieves and not for customers. This phone was trackable, and the tracking company worked closely with the police department in locating the suspects.

Once the suspects’ location was determined, they were pulled over for a traffic stop, at which time they took off, said Detective Sergeant Schrepfer.

Both a short car chase and a foot chase ensued, after which all were apprehended.

“Sergeant Reese [PIT maneuvered] their vehicle,” said Detective Sergeant Schrepfer. “When that happened, everyone but the driver took off on foot. They were apprehended soon after.”
