Officials investigate Dollar General store fire

by Wes Mayer

Coweta authorities are still investigating a fire that appeared to be intentionally set in a Dollar General south of Newnan on June 15.

Last Sunday, Engine 4 with the Coweta County Fire Department responded to the Dollar General at 857 Pine Road, off U.S. 29 South, in reference to a possible fire, said Assistant Fire Chief Mitch Coggin. Firefighters arrived to find a small amount of smoke in the building coming from a rack of clothing that had been extinguished by employees at the store.

Coggin said the fire is still under investigation by the Coweta County Fire Marshal’s Office and Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.
