A contract has been awarded for Coweta County’s south Newnan Bypass extension project.

The project also includes the improvements to the U.S. 29/Pine Road/Ga. Hwy. 16 intersection, the widening of Hwy. 16 from the Bypass to U.S. 29, and the widening of U.S. 29 from the interstate to Pine Road.

E.R. Snell Contractor Inc. of Snellville was awarded the $16,706,344 contract.

The Newnan Bypass will continue southward from its current end at Turkey Creek Road to Georgia Hwy. 16 East. It will come out just west of East Gordon Road. A portion of East Gordon Road will be abandoned. The new section of road is 2.916 miles.

The project includes the construction of two bridges over the Central of Georgia railroad, and closed circuit television systems will be installed.

The project completion date is May 2018.

E.R. Snell has done quite a lot of work in Coweta, most of it road rehabilitation and repaving.

The company did several repaving projects in summer of 2013 and summer of 2011. The most recent major project was the Hal Jones and U.S. 29 improvements and Greentop Road realignment.
