Richard Blake Willeby admitted to investigators that he burglarized the homes to support his addiction to methamphetamine.

A man suspected of burglarizing more than 10 homes across Coweta, Fayette and Spalding counties is being held in the Spalding County Jail.

Richard Blake Willeby, 24, from Fayetteville, was recently arrested and was charged with five counts of burglary by Spalding County authorities on May 2, said Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. After further investigation, it was determined Willeby was also responsible for three burglaries in Coweta County and four in Fayette County. During interviews, Willeby admitted to investigators that he burglarized the homes to support his addiction to methamphetamine, Yarbrough said.

According to Yarbrough, in each of the burglaries, Willeby would kick in the home’s door, remove a pillowcase and grab mostly jewelry.

Investigators Jae Robertson and Sgt. John Kennedy with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office were the lead investigators on the three April burglaries in eastern Coweta County – one on Overland Trail and two in the Springwater Plantation subdivision on Springwater Chase and Springview Place.

Some of the evidence taken from the Coweta County burglary scenes matched up to Willeby, Yarbrough said, and at the time of his arrest, Willeby had some stolen jewelry in his possession.
