SAN ANTONIO (AP) - House Speaker John Boehner says he has "nudged" former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to run for president in 2016.

Boehner, the top Republican in Congress, made the comments at a luncheon in San Antonio, Texas. Several Republicans have signaled their interest in possible presidential bids, including Senators Marco Rubio, Rand Paul and Ted Cruz.

The Ohio Republican also says he expects to keep his leadership position in 2015 but stopped short of committing to fully serving out a 13th term in Congress.

Boehner says he has spent the past several days trying to assure Democrats they will be treated fairly if they serve on a new select committee the House established last week to investigate the 2012 Benghazi, Libya attack. Some Democrats have suggested boycotting the committee.
