Officers with Peachtree City Police Department arrested a wanted suspect in a traffic stop Monday morning. About 11 a.m. May 5 an officer conducted a traffic stop on Huddleston Drive in Peachtree City. The driver initially stopped his vehicle. While the officer was confirming registration and insurance information the driver fled in his vehicle, said department spokesman Lt. Mark Brown.

The driver fled into a nearby business park where he abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. Information was distributed by way of the department’s social media and email alert systems within minutes of the incident.

Officers were able to set up a perimeter in the area of Planterra Ridge, Brown said. As a result of the alerts, citizens called 911 giving officers the location of the suspect until he was captured by Peachtree Police Officers and a Fayette County K-9 unit. Dontevious Ferrell, 24, of Gay, GA in Meriwether County was charged with numerous traffic charges, Driving with a Suspended License, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Resisting Officer, Loitering, and On Premises of Another without Permission. Ferrell was also wanted out of two counties for Violation of Probation. “The department would like to thank citizens for subscribing to our social media sites and civic alerts to stay informed of emergency events,” said Brown. “The quick capture of the suspect avoided him committing more crimes in our community.”
