Alabama woman dies in I-85 crash

A 25-year-old Alabama woman lost her life in a single-vehicle accident Monday evening on Interstate 85 before thunderstorms struck in the area, but authorities are not considering the crash to be weather-related.

Around 7:20 p.m., Meriwether County authorities and emergency responders with the Coweta County Fire Department were dispatched to an accident with a confirmed fatality, said Assistant Fire Chief Mitch Coggin. Two occupants were inside the vehicle, and the passenger, Brittany Marie Huber, was entrapped inside – she was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Tracey Watson, public information officer with Georgia’s Department of Public Safety, authorities arrived to find the driver of a 2008 Lexus, John Redman, 23, lost control of the vehicle around mile-marker 33 on I-85 southbound, traveled into the median and struck the concrete bridge support on the right side of the vehicle.

Redman, who was not entrapped, was transported with serious injuries to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta by ground ambulance, Watson said. The investigation is ongoing, but authorities do not believe the cause to be weather-related. Charges are pending, Watson said.
