Taste of Newnan returns Thursday

Get your taste buds ready – Main Street Newnan is hosting the spring edition of its popular food festival, Taste of Newnan, this Thursday from 5 to 8:30 p.m. around the Court Square.

Taste of Newnan features local restaurants and caterers set up around the historic Coweta County Courthouse sharing samples of their menu items.

Tickets are $1 each to exchange for a “taste,” and food vendors have been asked to price the majority of their samples at $2 or less. At the festival, each vendor will have a menu posted with the cost for each item.

Main Street Newnan has designated several businesses where advance tickets may be purchased. Tickets may also be purchased at the event from ticket booths located at each corner of the downtown square and a fifth in front of the KIDS ZONE.

Taste of Newnan serves as a marketing opportunity for local Newnan-Coweta restaurants to showcase their most popular dishes during this bi-annual family-friendly event, according to Courtney Collins, Main Street manager with the City of Newnan. “Twice a year nearly 7,000 people gather in historic downtown Newnan for the Taste of Newnan,” she said.

Along with the food, the event features two stages with family-friendly musical entertainment and a special area for youngsters to enjoy activities. There will be cuisine from more than 35 local restaurants.

“The Taste of Newnan is a downtown tradition, and an opportunity to build memories with your friends and family while supporting local businesses,” Collins said.

“An event of this size would be impossible to host without the help from volunteers,” she added, and individuals have been encouraged to volunteer, and businesses and organizations are welcome to partner with Main Street Newnan as a group of volunteers during the Taste of Newnan.

“We encourage all businesses interested in volunteering to show their company spirit, and dress in promotional attire, including company hats, T-shirts, company pools or even company costumes,” she said. Volunteers must be 18 or older due to the nature of the event, Collins said.
