Two people were arrested in Newnan on Saturday after a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office deputy discovered multiple baggies of marijuana inside their vehicle.

Around 10:30 p.m., sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Thrower noticed a green Nissan vehicle with a broken headlight leave the Rush Foods convenience store on Dodson Street, said Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough with the sheriff’s office.

Thrower pulled over the vehicle and identified the driver as Tiffany Nicole Amey, 25, and the passenger as Thomas Jashan Swindle, 27.

Thrower detected a strong odor of alcohol and marijuana coming from the vehicle, Yarbrough said, and he received consent to search the vehicle. During the search, he found 16 individual baggies of marijuana in the back seat along with a pipe and a small amount of methamphetamine in another bag.

An amount of marijuana was also found in Swindle’s pocket.

Both Amey and Swindle denied possession of the marijuana and meth found in the back seat, Yarbrough said, so they were both charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of methamphetamine. Swindle was additionally charged with a violation of probation for failing to appear in court and Amey was additionally charged for the broken headlight.

Both were transported to the Coweta County Jail.
