Bullsboro accident

Man charged with failure to yield

by Wes Mayer

The driver who caused the accident in the intersection of Bullsboro Drive and Parkway North during rush hour Monday has been charged with failure to yield while turning left.

Around 5:45 p.m., the driver of a Ford F-250 was traveling westbound on Highway 34 and was turning left onto Parkway North when he crossed into the path of a van traveling eastbound, said Georgia State Patrol Trooper Kevin Leslie, who worked the accident. The van collided with the passenger’s side of the truck, and the force of the impact flipped the truck onto the driver’s side. Airbags were deployed in the van, Leslie said.

The truck was also carrying a few objects in the bed, including a tank of diesel fuel. After the initial collision, the two vehicles ran into a third vehicle stopped at the light on Parkway North, and objects flew out of the truck and hit a fourth vehicle that was stopped in the right turn lane of Parkway North.

Authorities with the Newnan Police Department, Coweta County Fire Department, Coweta County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol arrived on the scene to handle the accident. There were four people, including three children, in the van, Leslie said, and only drivers in the three other vehicles.

Coweta firefighters extricated the driver of the Ford truck by removing the roof, and he was transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital, said Assistant Fire Chief Mitch Coggin. Leslie said the driver may have had a few broken ribs, but there were no other injuries among the other occupants.

Diesel fuel from the tank also began leaking onto the road after the accident.
