Newnan man shot in hand winds up arrested

A Newnan man was shot in the hand Sunday morning, and he was subsequently arrested for a violation of probation warrant.

Around 4:15 a.m., Officer Joseph Castro was called in to the Newnan Police Department office in reference to a dispute. There, Castro met with a man who told him about the victim, Michael Lang, 30, who was apparently shot while walking on Ray Street, according to Castro.

The witness told Castro that, early Sunday, Lang came to the home of the witness banging on the door. When the witness opened the door, Lang rushed in with two small handguns and said he was shot in the finger.

Castro and the witness then drove to Ray Street to find Lang, and the witness identified him walking down the street. According to Castro, he got out of his patrol car and met with Lang, who said he was shot in the hand while walking between Ray Street and North Annie Street, but he could not say who shot him.

Coweta Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene and Lang was transported by ambulance to Piedmont Newnan Hospital, according to Castro.

It was then discovered he had a warrant out for a violation of probation, so he was transported the Coweta County Jail after he was cleared from the hospital.

The investigation was turned over to Sgt. Chad Wood.
