Job fairs major part of Goodwill Week

by Sarah Fay Campbell

Today through Saturday is Goodwill Week, and the Goodwill Career Centers in Coweta will celebrate with several events.

Job fairs are planned, as well as workshops.

“We wanted to reconnect with employers, so we invited some employers that we have not had job fairs with recently back to the career center,” said Stephanie Glenn, mission services manager at the Goodwill Career Centers at both the Newnan West and Newnan East stores.

Veyance Technologies, a new manufacturer in Hogansville, will be holding a job fair on Wednesday at the Newnan West center in Shenandoah Plaza on Hwy 34. The session will begin at 10 a.m.

“They are excited to work with us. They have a lot of positions, for manufacturing production and warehouse,” Glenn said.

Malone Staffing, which hires for positions associated with automotive providers in West Point, will be at the Newnan West Center on Monday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be a job fair for positions at local Goodwill retail stores on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Resource MFG, which hires for Yamaha and other companies, will be at the Newnan East Center on Highway 34 East at Highway 154 – Thomas Crossroads on Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon.

A workshop, “Employment with a Not So Hot Background,” will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Newnan East and 1 p.m. at Newnan West.

On Friday, Mary Spearman of Wells Fargo Bank will speak about getting out of debt. Her workshop will be at 10 a.m. at Newnan East and 1 p.m. at Newnan West.

Local health care education providers Village Samaritan and Golden Age Healthcare will be at the Newnan East center on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Affinis Hospice, which is hiring for positions, will also be on hand during that time.

The career centers offer various services for job seekers, including the use of computers, phones and fax machines. Assistance with resumes is also available.

Both centers have English- and Spanish-speaking staff and volunteers, according to Glenn.

The Newnan East store and career center at Thomas Crossroads opened last June.

“The center is brand new and it’s great, but everybody, for whatever reason, still gravitates to Newnan West,” Glenn said.

The Newnan East center has all the services the Newnan West in Newnan center has, and they’re also working to provide more skills training, education, and workforce development services there, added Glenn.

For more information, call the career centers at 678-423-3562 ext. 101 for Newnan West and 678-854-6839 ext. 4 for Newnan East.
