A small piece of crime scene tape blows in the wind at the intersection of Price Street and Mary Ann Street. It was used to secure the scene of the shooting Wednesday that left one person dead.

A man was fatally shot Wednesday morning in an eastside Newnan neighborhood, and authorities with the Newnan Police Department were still searching for the suspect Wednesday evening.

Around 2:05 a.m., police officers were dispatched to 9 Mary Ann Street in reference to a person being shot. According to Officer Jody Stanford, when officers arrived, they met with a witness who led them to Reginald Lamont Sinkfield, 31, who was lying in a field between 9 and 11 Mary Ann Street.

Sinkfield had a single bullet wound to the center of his chest, was not breathing and had no pulse, according to Stanford. Medical units arrived on scene and tended to Sinkfield, but could not revive him.

Officers spoke to witnesses who said they heard two males running behind the residences before one gunshot was heard.

According to Stanford, witnesses described the suspected shooter as between five feet, six inches and five feet, eight inches tall, weighing around 180 pounds and wearing a white T-shirt, white tennis shoes, black pants and a black hat.

Sinkfield is now the third man to lose his life to gun violence in Newnan within the last week.

The two other men, Darian Person and Gregory Marquel Anderson, were both fatally shot on March 25, the day when this string of shootings began, on Hill Street near Pinson Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Newnan. Two others remain in critical condition.

Hill Street and Mary Ann Street intersect, and Sinkfield was found only about seven houses away from where Person and Anderson were shot.
