One of the two victims killed in a shooting late Tuesday lies on Hill Street. Authorities with both the Newnan Police Department and the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. The second victim was transported to the hospital but also died. The incident is under investigation.

Two men were victims of a deadly shooting Tuesday evening in Newnan.

Around 6:45 p.m., authorities with both the Newnan Police Department and the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hill Street in reference to shots fired and someone being injured, said Newnan Police Chief Douglas “Buster” Meadows. When officers arrived, they found one victim lying in the street near the intersection of Hatcher Street, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Meadows, another victim was found farther up Hill Street, and he was transported to the hospital, but he also died of his injuries. According to public safety radio traffic, the second victim was transported by ambulance to Piedmont Newnan Hospital and was in cardiac arrest.

Meadows said the investigation is ongoing, and detectives are still interviewing potential witnesses. He said it is too early in the investigation to know whether this shooting is related to a shooting on Lovelace Street earlier Tuesday, a shooting in which one person was injured from multiple gunshot wounds.

The names of the victims have not been released.
